Ugly Cherub

In this digital photomontage series, Ugly Cherub, I have visually explored the juxtaposition between the popular rhetoric of young babies as smiling cherubs and my personal experience; I was born 3 months prematurely. The effects of my birth were not limited to my own experience, but also the strain on my parents. I am constantly reminded with what I went through as a child as I am partially deaf in one ear.  It is an everyday struggle to fully immerse myself in conversation which a ‘normal’ personal would find effortless. I have used digital collage to appropriate popular Anne Geddes images with images of myself when I was first born and the locations I was in.
